Book Reviews

Now that the book is out and a hundred or so copies have sold, I thought I ought to put up a place for feedback from readers. Actually the whole blog needs an overhaul. At any rate, if you've read the book and you have anything to say about it, feel free to leave comments, reviews, scathing tirades, etc.

Incidentally, I'm having a reading and signing event in Salt Lake City on Saturday October 20, 7-9 p.m. Drop me a line with your mailing address if you'd like an invitation.

Thanks for reading!

This comment is forwarded from Becky, with her comments on the book. Becky says:

Brock - Your book immediately drew me in and took me back to my pioneer ancestors and my own growing up years in the Bear River Valley. Boy, do I have a better appreciation for the effort it took to gather foods as well as prepare them! I love the way you've woven authentic pioneer stories, recipes, and facts into a delightful read.

Congratulations!

Finally got ahold of a copy. Marvelous. I am tempted to try growing sugar beets and making molasses out of them some year. Every chapter a gem. :)

Love your book. as a self proclaimed history geek, working on a family heritage cook book, it is just what the chef ordered. My mom remembers her grandmother making a dish called "Hasty Dick." I believe it is what you call in the book, "Lumpy Dick." That's a confirmation that Mom's memory is pretty great. She also knew the pioneer woman, Mary Garner, called"The Last Leaf." Thanks for linking the past with my present. I will be following your blog.

Just wanted to thank you for this book!! As someone who is fascinated with food and nutrition in general, I have always wondered about what day-to-day meals looked like for the pioneers! This was so fun to read and so interesting!!
